How to gamify your community using Kajabi
If your community space has been feeling a bit quiet – or your members are showing up but not really engaging – gamification might help spark some energy again.
I'm not talking about competition for competition's sake. Just small, thoughtful ways to help people feel seen, celebrate their progress, and enjoy the experience a little more.
Kajabi makes this surprisingly simple.
I’ve used a bunch of platforms over the years, and Kajabi is the first one I’ve stuck with. It has built-in tools that make it easy to add just the right amount of play – and you get to choose how lightly or deeply you want to lean in.
Why gamify?
Gamification can help:
πΏ Make progress visible (especially helpful for slow, steady growth)
πΌ Spark motivation when energy dips
π± Encourage repeat visits and ongoing engagement
Inside Your Digital Garden, it’s helped us celebrate the little things – a thoughtful reply, a small step forward, someone cheering someone else on.
Built-in gamification tools in Kajabi
Here's what's already included in Kajabi communities:
π― Challenges – I renamed mine “Quests.” Each month we have a three-stop journey: Simplify, Focus, and Grow.
π Points tracking – Kajabi automatically assigns points when people post, react, RSVP, complete a quest, or comment. You can also customise the points values and set limits on how many times each activity earns points.
π Leaderboard – Tracks weekly, monthly, and all-time points (great for celebrating engagement without pressure).
π
Badges – Awarded based on engagement. You can set the thresholds and create your own badge names and designs.
All of this works out of the box – no extra plugins or tech needed.
How I use gamification inside Your Digital Garden
I keep things light, meaningful, and values-aligned. Here’s a peek inside:
β¨ I theme each month and create a new Quest to match
β¨ I add badges for first posts, thoughtful replies, and mini achievements
β¨ I post monthly shout-outs to celebrate top point earners
β¨ I include prizes (like access to special events or 1:1 support) for leaderboard winners
And here’s how the points system looks:
Badges unlock as people earn points – little signs of progress, connection, and community care.
πͺ· I roll them out gradually and post “Badge Bloom Alerts” to keep it fun and visible.
